The Cape Breton Farmhouse was built around 1880. It is situated at Kempt Head Road, Boularderie Island, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. It is 90% in its original state, heated by wood and coal. It was home to one family and their descendants until the late 1970's. Since then, it has changed hands twice and has been occupied until the present day. Water was supplied from a small pool outside, and an outhouse served as a toilet. There was no electricity or indoor plumbing until the late 1980's.
